About the visa
Sportspersons can visit the UK under the Standard Visitor rules to take part in permitted sporting activities for a short period. This covers specific tournaments or events, certain trials, short training, promotional appearances, and joining an amateur team. It does not allow paid employment by a UK sporting body—for that, the International Sportsperson visa is required.
Eligibility & key rules
You must be a genuine visitor who:
- Will leave the UK at the end of the visit
- Will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits
- Has sufficient funds for the stay without working or accessing public funds
- Will only undertake permitted sporting activities
Sporting visitors must not fill a role or provide short-term cover for a position within a UK-based organisation, and must remain paid and employed outside the UK.
