About the visa

Sportspersons can visit the UK under the Standard Visitor rules to take part in permitted sporting activities for a short period. This covers specific tournaments or events, certain trials, short training, promotional appearances, and joining an amateur team. It does not allow paid employment by a UK sporting body—for that, the International Sportsperson visa is required.

Eligibility & key rules

You must be a genuine visitor who:

Will leave the UK at the end of the visit
Will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits
Has sufficient funds for the stay without working or accessing public funds
Will only undertake permitted sporting activities

Sporting visitors must not fill a role or provide short-term cover for a position within a UK-based organisation, and must remain paid and employed outside the UK.
